This Privacy Policy explains how Alef Diary (the "app", "we", "us"), operated by Alef Core LLC, collects, uses, stores, and protects your information when you use the app and the website at alefdiary.com. By using Alef Diary, you agree to the practices described here.
Alef Diary turns your diary entries into written chapters. To do that, we have to process your entries on our servers — so your content is not stored only on your device. This policy describes exactly what that means in plain language.
1. Who we are
Alef Diary is provided by Alef Core LLC, a company registered in the United States. For any privacy question or request, contact us at privacy@alefdiary.com.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details. Your email address and a password (which we store only as a salted hash — we never see your actual password).
- The content you create. Your diary entries — text, voice recordings, and video — and any reference photos you choose to upload.
- Payment information. If you subscribe, payment is handled by our payment processor, Stripe. We do not receive or store your full card number.
- Messages to us. Anything you send when you contact support, and the email you submit if you join the waitlist on our website.
Information created for you
- Generated content. The chapters, images, moods, palettes, and recurring "cast" that Alef Diary creates from your entries.
We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, tracking, or crash-reporting tools. We do not build advertising profiles, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
3. How your entries are processed
When you record an entry, it is sent securely to our servers, where it is processed into a chapter (and, where applicable, images and narrated audio). Some of this processing uses third-party AI providers.
- Sent anonymously. When content is sent to an AI provider for processing, it is sent without your name, email, or account identity attached.
- Never used to train AI. Your entries, recordings, photos, and generated chapters are never used to train or improve any AI model — ours or anyone else's.
- Providers may change. We may change AI providers over time as the technology evolves. Our commitments above apply regardless of which provider is used.
4. How we store and protect your information
- Where it lives. Your data is stored in the cloud, on infrastructure located in the United States.
- Encryption. Your data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and encrypted at rest on our servers.
- Honest note on encryption. Because we generate chapters for you, our systems process your entries in readable form during that step. This means Alef Diary is not end-to-end encrypted — we are technically able to access content while processing it. We restrict that access to what is needed to operate the service.
5. How we use your information
- To create your chapters and run the core features of the app.
- To manage your account and authenticate you.
- To process your subscription payments through Stripe.
- To respond to you when you contact us.
- To keep the service secure and to comply with the law.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
6. Who we share information with
We share information only with the service providers we need to run Alef Diary:
- AI providers — to process entries into chapters, in anonymized form.
- Stripe — to process subscription payments.
- Cloud hosting — to store your account and content (United States).
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the service. We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
7. How long we keep it
- Your account and library. Your account and the chapters in it are kept until you delete your account.
- Raw inputs. The original material used to generate a chapter is retained only as long as needed for processing and is deleted within a few months.
8. Deleting your data
You can delete everything at any time. Deleting your account removes your account and all data tied to it — your entries, chapters, images, and uploaded photos. You can also email privacy@alefdiary.com and we will help.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal information. We extend the core of these rights to all of our users.
If you are in the EU / EEA / UK (GDPR)
- Access, correct, or delete your personal data.
- Export your data (data portability).
- Object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent at any time.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
If you are in California (CCPA/CPRA)
- Know what personal information we collect and how it is used.
- Request deletion of your personal information.
- Opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information — we do not sell or share your information, so there is nothing to opt out of.
- Not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.
To exercise any of these rights, use the in-app delete option or email privacy@alefdiary.com.
10. Children
Alef Diary is not intended for children under 13, and you must be at least 13 to use it. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. International users
Alef Diary is operated from, and stores data in, the United States. If you use the app from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be processed and stored in the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your country.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
